Part of being self-contained and prepared in flood damage cleanup work is having the right tools, equipment, and supplies. Below is a list of flood cleanup items. Volunteers should provide their own tools and equipment to the extent possible. Units requesting volunteers and those providing them should coordinate how these items will be provided.
For Cleanup:
- Flat-blade shovels
- Street push brooms
- Safety goggles
- Work gloves
- Latex/rubber gloves (used when working with wet articles)
- Dust masks
- Crow bars (large and small)
- Pry bars
- Claw hammers
- Utility knives/dry wall saws
- Portable sump pumps and hoses
- Chain saws (with chain oil, extra chains, etc.)
- Gas-powered generators
- Flashlights and headlamps (for working in basements without power)
For Moving Debris:
- Plastic snow/ice sleds
- Wheelbarrows
- Five-gallon plastic buckets
